BNSSG Exec Team Development

Challenge

In 2023 Integrated Care Boards (ICBs) were asked to make a 30% reduction in running costs as part of the broader national strategy to streamline NHS funding and improve efficiency. This came just one year after ICB’s were established and forced a radical rethink on how they plan and deliver services for their local population. The restructures that followed led to a loss of talent and a detrimental impact on motivation and morale in systems which were already struggling.

Programme

CoCreate was asked to support the Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire ICB Executive Team through this challenging time as they worked to design a new operating model that enabled them to most effectively manage resources, allocate funding, and prioritise services.

We introduced the iEQ9 tool, working closely with each member of the Executive Team to enable them to explore the strengths and development opportunities of their Enneagram type. Sharing individual iEQ9 Types accelerated trust and understanding across the Exec Team, with iEQ9 Team Report illuminating the strengths and development gaps for the team to work on.

Utilising our ‘Four Domains of Psych Safety’ framework enabled the team to lean into courageous conversations, including a peer ‘hot seat’ feedback session where each team member gained insight into what their colleagues appreciated, and one or two pieces of specific advice on how to be a more effective member of the team.

As the team grappled with their organisational change programme we introduced the Three Horizons framework, galvanising the team around a shared vision of the future and identifying priorities for the Executive Team to lead on.

Impact

Exec Team members reported a profound impact – both personally and collectively. To amplify this impact CoCreate has been engaged to roll-out the iEQ9 and Three Horizons frameworks across the senior leadership population. To build alignment and collaboration these development events brought together the Executive Team with the Senior Leadership Team, creating a shared language around leadership and supporting a cultural shift towards a more networked and less hierarchical approach to decision-making across the organisation.

Client experience

CoCreate’s approach was intelligent, supportive and appropriately challenging, and the iEQ9 framework provided us with a deep insight into our preferences and behaviours which allowed us to become a really high performing team.  As a Chief Executive it changed my approach to leading the team and it is making a real difference day-to-day. I would strongly recommend CoCreate to any senior team who genuinely wants to develop a collaborative and high performing environment.
