Laureus Sport for Good

Challenge

Founded under the patronage of Nelson Mandela, the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation exists to support organisations worldwide who use sport to enable children and young people to overcome violence, discrimination and disadvantage in their lives – from supporting refugees and tackling HIV/Aids to promoting social inclusion, employability and health.

Laureus supports over 200 programmes globally, and CoCreate was asked to design an ‘unconference’ Global Summit event, that brought the network together to share learning and unlock innovation.

Programme

CoCreate has worked closely with Laureus on three Global Summits, designing events that feel less like a conference, and more like a dynamic meeting for a global movement for change.

To do this we introduce different design themes that support a shift from ‘attending’ and  ‘participating’ and towards ‘creating and ‘owning’.

These design themes have included from ‘Tribes’ that bring together participants into a peer-led learning group that journeyed together throughout the Summit the Summit; a self-directed Knowledge Exchange programme that was brought to life through Open Space Technology; peer-coaching groups where participants co-coached one another on key challenges;  and a ‘Collaboration Café’ – a curated forum that enabled attendees to meet, collaborate and bring partnership ideas to life.

These sessions are woven throughout the Summit design, interspersed with inspirational and interactive sessions with leading athletes and coaches, including Fabio Capello, Bryan Habana, Alex Scott and many more.

The Summit structure enabled projects to work together on critical strategic priorities, including working with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), exploring the opportunities and challenges in terms of aligning measurement and communications with the global framework.

Client experience

CoCreate was contracted to design and deliver Laureus’ Global Summit – a flagship event that unites all our grantees from over 30 nations worldwide. They were involved in every aspect of the event from stakeholder consultation and content design through to hosting, facilitation and recruitment of high calibre workshop leads. The ‘CoCreate factor’ was the secret weapon we used to differentiate the event and make it stand out from the ‘crowd’ of conferences and gatherings delivered across our sector. Their creativity, work ethic, and unique insights were critical to achieving the highest approval rating we have ever attained on any event, with 100% of participants ranking the event good or excellent overall in anonymous feedback. Simply put – they were stellar and I can not recommend them highly enough.
